About Dr. Loftus and his lab

John P. Loftus, PhD, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM & Nutrition)
Dr. Loftus is an Assistant Professor in the Small Animal Internal Medicine Section. He was raised in Massachusetts and attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He earned a BS in Animal Science and his PhD in Animal Biotechnology and Biomedical Science, focusing on immunology. He moved to Ithaca in 2008 to attend Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating with his DVM degree in 2012. He completed a small animal rotating internship, clinical nutrition residency, and small animal internal medicine residency at Cornell University Hospital for Animals. He is a Board-Certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist and Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Seth Peng, BA
Seth was the Loftus Lab's Research Technician from 2018-2022. He was raised in the Finger Lakes region in Central New York and attended Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where he received a BA in Biology. After graduation, he began working as a research technician in several labs at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in the departments of Microbiology and Immunology and Molecular Medicine before joining the Loftus Lab in Clinical Sciences.
Seth was the Loftus Lab's Research Technician from 2018-2022. Jennifer Prieto, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (SAIM)
Congratulations on your new position! Dr. Prieto is now a Clinical Assistant Professor in Small Animal Internal Medicine at Cornell. She was formerly a Postdoctoral Associate in the Loftus Lab. She was raised in Central New York State and attended the Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences where she completed a BS in Biological Sciences. She entered the Combined DVM/PhD program at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 earning her DVM degree in 2013 and PhD in Immunology in 2015. She completed a small animal rotating internship at the Veterinary Medical Center of CNY before returning to Cornell for a residency in small animal internal medicine completed in 2019. She is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
